I've been hearing strange sounds in my apartment that seem to originate from the air around me. Like the account below, they occasionally wake me despite the fact that I'm wearing high decibel earplugs.

Was awakened from a sound slumber by a loud, long, single ring that sounded like the fire alarm had gone off, but it had not. It was remarkably clear considering I had earplugs in.
